New school board member named

This week Mrs. Terri Trick was appointed to the Walla Walla Public Schools Board of Directors. Tuesday she will be officially sworn into the position at the regularly scheduled School Board meeting. She moved to Walla Walla in 1983 with her husband Roger, a park ranger with the National Park Service.  They have three grown children, all of whom graduated from Walla Walla High School.  Mrs. Trick earned a BA from the University of Utah in English and Spanish and a Masters of Education from Washington State University in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education.  Active in many Little Theatre of Walla Walla productions, she has also served on the LTWW board of directors. She is active in American Association of University Women and is on the board of directors of Friends of the Farm Labor Homes (Valle Lindo). She has been an educator in Walla Walla for over 30 years. In her spare time, Mrs. Trick enjoys the great outdoors, travel, and playing the piano for contra dances with her friends in the Wednesday Night Band.

Early dismissal (K-5) June 8 and Last Day of School June 13

There is early dismissal for elementary schools Friday, June 8 for report card preparation. The last day of school for the 2017-2018 school year is Wednesday, June 13. This is an early dismissal for all students. Check with your school child’s school for specific early dismissal times. Also, be sure to take advantage of the district’s summer program opportunities. 

2018 Graduates of Distinction reception June 5

Walla Walla Public Schools names this year’s honorees for the Graduates of Distinction program. They are: Terry Atchison, Class of 1966; Dr. Randall Barton, Class of 1971; and Dr. Elizabeth MacDonald, Class of 1995.

Garrison Middle School students featured in new video highlighting their school
Check out the new VIDEO featuring Garrison Middle School students. Students talk about the vast academic and extra-curricular programs available to all students to make their school a great place to learn.
Walla Walla teachers receive Ag Education grants

Three Walla Walla High School teachers were awarded CASE Technology and Equipment Grants totaling $101,000 to further support their school’s Agriculture Education program. The grant will provide funding to fully implement a complete science pathway and to purchase equipment to support the CASE curriculum. In these courses students will investigate, experiment, and learn about documenting a project, solving problems, and communicating their solutions to their peers and members of the professional community.

GEAR UP offers summer camps for graduating seniors

Walla Walla High School’s GEAR UP program will be offering two summer programs for graduating seniors of the class of 2018. College Survival Camps will be held at both WSU and EWU. These camps are created to help ease the transition for new college students. Each camp will be fully funded for GEAR UP students including all transportation, housing and food! Students attending either WSU, EWU or WWCC as future transfer students are encouraged to attend. Sign up at the GEAR UP offices at Wa-Hi or call 509-526-8621.

Garage sale planned to support AVID program
The Walla Walla High School AVID program is planning a garage sale Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1135 E. Chestnut St. The proceeds will be used for field trips to visit colleges, job shadowing programs, and program enhancements.  If you have any items that you would like to donate to the program, please contact Jen Hein at jhein@wwps.org.  
HeadStart/ECEAP program taking applications for next school year
